Grade I Listed Building – Tobacco Dock, London Jupiter Visual Communications

We were invited by one of our event clients to redesign and fit out the entrance to their offices at Tobacco Dock in London. As one of the top graphics agency in the country, they wanted a comfortable welcome area befitting their clients.

Tobacco Dock is a Grade I listed warehouse located in the East London district of Wapping – its evolved over the years, turning into a full blown shopping centre and then into a popular London events venue. The offices are located in the original building and the brickwork is stunning. We used Cableflor and some custom cable management furniture to refurbish their reception area. Our Cableflor system is perfect for listed buildings as it can be laid on top of existing floors, and as the lowest cable management floor on the market, there is minimal loss of ceiling height. A very busy agency, their entrance could sometimes be used a temporary dumping ground and was considered a wasted space. Here is what the reception area used to look like:

We wanted to create an inviting environment which allows the architecture to be seen in all its glory.

We started by adding new flooring to create a clean and distinct reception area. To partially screen off the office area, we used a modular system called Octanorm which also provided a hanging point for a large TV.

The space now provides a modern area to have meetings and relaxed presentations, whilst providing refreshments for clients and colleagues.

The modular system Octanorm was also used to create the furniture with built-in cable management that we designed. Utilising the cable management facility in our Cableflor and the Octanorm, we connected our custom made table with the TV so Jupiter could run through their portfolio or make presentations from the sofas.

Finishing touches…

We used a wood finish to complement the brickwork and our integrated, flush-fitting spotlights to highlight the arches.

Jupiter work with some huge retailers, so we incorporated some free-standing mannequins (dipped with the same hydrographic as the floor) for somewhere to hang their coats when they came in.

We also made a refreshments bench with coffee machine, making full use of our cable management system to keep all cables out of sight.

Lastly, we inlaid an illuminated graphic by the entrance.

Cableflor is ideal for listed buildings as it provides cable management, whilst being placed over the top of existing flooring. It is the lowest raised access flooring on the market, being only 2cm high, so it saves of ceiling height and there’s no need to replace doors. At Cableflor we care about the environment. Your flooring can be taken up and reused if you want to reconfigure your space or move office. Our flooring is also 100% recyclable, and our black flooring is made from recycled plastic. If your flooring needs to be replaced, we can recycle and remould it for you for an exchange discount.

At Cableflor we can provide a bespoke design service to help you transform your listed building, office or rented space. To discuss your upcoming project call us on 01293 853517 or send us an email at
